Alatocaerulea Passionflower also known as Imperatrice Eugenie is a Hybrid, Passiflora x belotii, between Passiflora alata and Passiflora caerulea. Dr. Lindley, in 1824, named this hybrid, Passiflora alato-caerulea, and over the years it has been given other names, Passiflora munroi, Passiflora pfortii, Passiflora x belotii. Today one of the most common names is Passionflower "Imperatrice Eugenie" in dedication to the wife of the Emperor, Napoleon III.
The Penta-symmetry, combined with the colors and the complexity fo the reproductive structures, makes this passionflower a botanical beauty and very interesting for macro photography.
